Promoting Humane Treatment of All AnimalsMission Statement: Animal Rescue Connections exists as a non-profit organization to educate and assist in all aspects of animal rescue, specifically promoting spay/neuter of all companion animals and encouraging responsible, humane treatment of stray populations.
Important Notice! Animal Rescue Connections will not be operating throughout the month of October. We will resume business as usual on 1 Nov 08. NEW!! Free Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) Workshop in Bulverde TX starts 14 June 08
Come learn why TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) is the only method that works effectively. The workshop will provide tips and instructions on how to safely and humanely reduce the free-roaming cat population in your community. Trapping and killing cats is inhumane and does not stop the outdoor cat population from increasing. The workshop will explain everything you need to know about the TNR process, free loan of traps, low-cost spay/neuter options, recovery protocols after spay/neuter surgery, how to help solve cat nuisance problems and safely manage outdoor cat populations. The dates are subject to change so check this page or call 210-378-9036 to confirm the date you plan to attend (14 Jun is firm). FOUND KITTENS??

OUTDOOR CATS FEATURED RESCUES: Harley-Puppers' Story Harley-puppers is a 9-week old pup who was callously thrown from a moving car traveling at about 40 mph in San Antonio on Thursday 15 Feb 07. Someone saw it happen and of course went to the pup's aid. The poor pup was seriously injured and was rushed to Traveling Tails Vet Clinic where Tracy Tommack administered emergency care to alleviate the pup's pain. Even, though he was in such pain, this pup's eyes showed extreme trust of the people helping him and he would weakly wag his tail as we approached him. After X-rays, the pup was found to have 5 fractures of the front right leg, including a broken collar-bone and 2 fractures of the front left leg. This was a case for the expert orthopedic surgeons at South Texas Veterinary Specialists at Sonterra Blvd so Harley was transported there for their evaluation. Dr Justin Payne at South Texas Veterinary Specialists examined him and agreed to treat him for the known injuries and he also identified damage to the ligaments around the pup's pelvis area. Dr Payne did a superb job of putting Harley back together and showed such a wonderful concern for his welfare. Dr Tracy Tommack at Traveling Tails Veterinary Clinic has volunteered to take care of the pup while he heals. What a precious little soul this pup is. Harley has come through his first surgery and now has splints on both front legs, so he is unable to walk at the moment but he doesn't let that dampen his spirits. His tail is constantly wagging at the prospect of any attention. 6 Mar 07- Latest news on Ryan 29 Apr 06: Ryan's leg has been improving steadily so we decided to take him along on the Fiesta Walk in Alamo Heights, run by the Delta Society of San Antonio www.deltasa.org. We took a cart along as we were sure that he would not want to walk the whole way but, except for photos ops, he was not interested in being in the cart at all! He did just great and didn't seem to have any problems with his recovering leg. RYAN'S HISTORY WE HAVE REACHED OUR TARGET FOR RYAN'S EXPENSES! Thanks so much to everyone for your generosity and kind hearts. SWEETPEA'S HISTORY Sweet Pea has some challenges ahead. She was born with no front legs but she doesn't seem to know that she is handicapped. She is a typical puppy with the sweetest temperament and we feel that she has the aptitude and determination (with some human help, of course) to lead a happy, active life. She is so active that there is concern that she will rub herself raw as she scoots around so we worked on developing a protective breast-plate with a very soft lining. The first prototype was comfortable but didn't stay in place. Plan B, involved securing the protective garment with a collar. But, the idea that worked best was a large man's sock which slips over her head and fits snugly. Her foster-dad has built her a temporary cart to support her front end and she has started her training on that. However, she is also being encouraged to stand on her hind legs to give her better mobility as she cannot always be using a cart. Every one of the animals rescued from the streets (usually cats and dogs - although we don't turn away from injured wildlife either) needs immediate veterinary/medical care which all costs money. Your contributions help us to help these innocent lives caught up in misery through no fault of their own. Bless you for your big hearts - we could not do this without you! Every little helps – If you would like to donate to the animal rescue work, please make checks payable to:
